Happy National Nurses Month: You are the heroes of our story.
They may get up every day like regular folks, but there is nothing regular about them. The hardworking nurses that serve our American House communities are truly Superstars in Scrubs.
Faced with one of the toughest health crises in our nation’s history, they persevered, overcoming unprecedented hardships with one goal in mind – to keep our American House family safe, healthy and out of harm’s way.
To honor the contributions to the field of nursing made by Florence Nightingale and to celebrate nurses everywhere, National Nurses Week is celebrated each year, May 6–12. In response to the profound challenges faced this during the COVID-19 pandemic, an extended month-long celebration has been planned throughout the month of May to honor their heroic efforts. With that being said, National Nurses Week is now National Nurses Month where we honor their courage, compassion and resilience.
Nursing is a noble, selfless profession dating back to the mid-1800s with the work of British-born Florence Nightingale. She was a nurse as well as a social reformer and statistician who established St. Thomas’ Hospital and the Nightingale Training School for Nurses in 1860. Her experiences during the Crimean War were foundational in her views about sanitation, and her efforts in healthcare reform greatly influenced the quality of care in the 19th and 20th centuries and beyond. Today, she is considered the founder of modern nursing.
Our American House nurses are undoubtedly the backbone of our company. Each and every one of you has contributed to our story in your special way. For your commitment to our residents, your hard work, dedication, kindness and support, we send along a sincere thank you – today and always.
