American House Affordable Retirement Living

With a combination of everyday affordable pricing, special discount programs, and available government financing options, American House provides superior senior living at a better value. Senior living financing options can be complex and confusing, so we invite you to contact the Executive Director at the location(s) you’re interested in; these knowledgeable, caring professionals can help you understand and evaluate your family’s best affordability opportunities and choices.

In the meantime, here is a brief overview of some of the special affordability programs for which you may be eligible at an American House Senior Living location:

Veterans

Programs for veterans are sponsored by the federal Veterans Administration, and provide compensation benefits and pension-related options to eligible United States veterans. You can visit www.va.gov or call 1-800-827-1000 for overall information, and talk to an American House Executive Director to better evaluate how Veterans programs can apply to your American House community costs. Read more about American House Veteran Services.

Shared Housing

At most American House locations two single adults can share a double companionship suite to reduce the overall costs to each individual; this can be an extremely affordable senior living option. Please contact an American House Executive Director at the location(s) of your choice for more information.

Section 8

This federally funded HUD program has federal income guidelines, and provides eligible recipients monthly financial assistance with a portion of their rent. This portable rent subsidy is offered through the Michigan State Housing Development Authority (MSHDA) office or a local housing commission. Availability of this program may vary; in addition to speaking with an American House Executive Director, you can visit www.michigan.gov/mshda or call your local MSHDA office for more information or to apply.

Tax Credit

The Low Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC) program offers reduced rental rates (a rent subsidy) for income-qualified residents. A certain number of units in several of our American House locations are designated for the low income housing tax credit with rental rates at nearly half the market rate. These units are typically all full, but please call American House for more information. The following American House locations offer these units:

Hazel Park     Lakeside     Milford North     Oakland Riverview     Southland     Troy

Low Income Housing Options

The MI Choice (Medicaid) Waiver Program is state funded, and eligibility is based on meeting medical and financial criteria (such as monthly income and total assets limits, which can differ for individuals and married couples). Eligible recipients may receive assistance in paying for meals, housekeeping and personal care services. Availability of this program may vary, but for more information you can visit www.aaa1b.com (www.aaa1c.org for Wayne county residents), or to apply you can contact the Area Agency on Aging 1B at 1-800-803-7174 or the Family Independence Agency in your area. An American House Executive Director can discuss this option with you.
