American House Livonia Team Members and Residents Discuss Caregiving and Detroit for PBS One Detroit
It had been awhile, but Sarah Zientarski hadn’t forgotten American House Livonia. Years earlier, while visiting a relative at the community, she had been struck by the warmth of the team, the lively atmosphere and the beautiful fireplace that anchors the main common area. That very fireplace became the backdrop for a recent film shoot when Sarah—now a journalist at Detroit’s PBS station—returned to the community to film an episode for the series One Detroit.
The segment explored caregiving and, in true One Detroit spirit, the experience of growing up in Detroit. What resulted from the filming was an insightful perspective on caring for seniors by our American House team leaders. In addition, American House Livonia residents spoke of spending the early part of the 20th century living and working in the Motor City.
Listen to their remarkable stories and discover how caring for seniors can be one of life’s most challenging and most rewarding experiences.
