How We're Keeping Our Residents Safe During COVID-19

Our house is your home. And, as the world continues to change, we’re adapting to better serve our residents and families, team members and partners.

Our Life Enrichment Team has been innovative in finding ways to keep our residents having fun.

Whether that’s creating music videos, using household items to recreate famous pieces of artwork or even connecting residents at other communities through our pen pal program.

While we haven’t been able to all dine together, our Culinary Teams continue to incorporate fresh and local items into every delicious meal.

Most of all, our Wellness Team and on-site community staff haven’t stopped working to keep our residents and team members safe.

As the pandemic progressed, the American House Wellness Team and Continuum Services were determined to keep our residents, team members and guests safe. They collaborated on this goal, and the PURE program was born.

Part of our HomeSafe move-in program, PURE follows CDC guidelines and focuses on creating a safer and cleaner experience for every individual in our community. It gives our residents, team members and guests a sense of security that we are doing everything we can to make sure everyone stays safe.

“PURE is about going above and beyond expectations. It’s a commitment to each resident, team member and guest’s wellbeing. After extensive research, we have selected a natural compound disinfectant that does not use harsh chemicals or put other contaminants in the air. It is effective and safe for humans and animals, "explained Ted Spicer, Chief Operating Officer of Continuum Services.

“By incorporating CDC recommendations, we have identified strategies that help to reduce the spread of COVD-19. COVID-19 can live for hours or days on a surface, depending on factors such as sunlight, humidity and the type of surface. It may be possible that a person can get COVID-19 by touching a surface or object that has the virus on it and then touching their own mouth, nose or eyes. However, this is not thought to be the main way the virus spreads. Incorporating social distancing and stringent infection control practices helps limit opportunities to come in contact with contaminated surfaces and infected people, “stated Schekesia Meadough, BSN, RN, CDP, Vice President of Quality and Clinical Operations of American House Senior Living Communities.

American House has been serving seniors and providing the highest quality of care for over 40 years, and we are committed to providing the highest level of service to our seniors during this pandemic. PURE gives our residents, team members and guest a sense of security that we are doing everything we can to make sure everyone stays safe.

“Although the risk of severe illness may be different for everyone, anyone can get and spread COVID-19. This is why it’s crucial that we adhere to these practices in the population that we serve. Because of our protocols and practices, we have flattened the curve and have seen fewer cases from both employees and residents,” explained Meadough.
